GMRCCC is pleased to announce that for the remainder of 2011 we will be running on road race meets on the first Sunday of each month in the Auto Pro car park on Hanson rd.
The first class we are developing is along the same lines as the Vintage Trans Am series. This class originated here, and while we are following the original rules fairly closely the rules we are developing do differ slightly, GMRCCC’s 2011 VTA Rules are available here.
Why have we chosen this class? Its an entry level class that promotes close competitive racing by stipulating control tyres, bodies and power plants. The lower speed means racers don’t need to place as bigger emphasis on the latest and greatest chassis, the control tyres removes the need for numerous sets of tyres for different track conditions and temperatures, and the old school muscle car bodies definitely add to the visual appeal.
The idea behind this class is to encourage close competitive racing with control tyres, bodies and motors/escs, and also bring a bit of scale realism back to racing. The controls also help to keep a lid on the costs, for a low initial outlay and running costs you can be racing in class that is just plain fun. So if you are in a position where you want or need to purchase new equipment please read our 2011 rules and consider purchasing equipment to suit.
Of course we aren’t limiting our on road efforts to one class, we’re currently offering an open and truck class also to get everyone racing. We’re starting out with a VTA but as we progress through the year there will probably be more rules developed to try and get everyone into a class.
